2yrs in may too young for herbal remedy?

My husband and i never liked medicine and started doing herbal remedies on ourselves… My son has a runny nose, sneezing, couching and sounds pretty congested.
He’s acting fine no fever but looks terrible and can’t sleep at night.

can i give him anything if so whats good?

I am desperate to save my puppy. Does anybody know of treatment above the general IV fluids?. I know he needs an IV so he does not die from dehydration, but if anyone knows of a home remedy or an herbal remedy that has worked for them, I really want to save my baby. Herbal medicine has helped me many times when traditional medicine was not enough.

Don’t worry, I’m not stupid. I would NEVER replace quality vet care for a home remedy. And I would NEVER try anything that could harm my pet or make him more sick. I just want to know what has worked for other people. An herbal supplement may boost his immune system enough to give him a fighting chance.
FYI he has had three rounds of shots.

Uses Of Herbs Through The Ages

It is amazing how the knowledge of uses of many herbs has not been lost through the ages. Many recipes have survived for hundreds of years and are still just as effective as they used to be. Take this recipe for instance that was recorded in 1597; the distilled water of Rosemary flowers must be drunk first thing in the morning and last thing at night to make the breath sweet. If you wish you can add a few cloves, mace, cinnamon and a little aniseed. If you wish to try this recipe, make a tincture of all these herbs and use 1-2 teaspoons with a glass of water as a refreshing mouthwash.

Centuries ago, sage was said to strengthen the sinews and fennel was supposed to restore lost sight and give strength to those that had to do battle. Hoodia is a plant found in the desert of Southern Africa and has also been used by the natives for hundreds of years. It reduces hunger pangs and is excellent for weight loss products. Ancients, from observing animals, gained much knowledge of the herbs growing in their area. What animals ate would obviously not be poisonous. By a process of elimination they found herbs to cure their common ailments and abrasions. The people that became skilled in using herbs were looked up to in the community.

They learnt how to dry plant parts when they were in season so that they could be used during the wintertime. In order to “revive” the dried leaves and flowers, they seeped them in boiling water. They discovered that the water from the dried herbs was just as effective as the fresh herbs. This is probably how the brewing of various teas came into being. The roots and bark were saved in a dry place and were used by breaking pieces off, grinding them and making them into medicines.

From the earliest times people have divided plants into 2 groups. They were not divided by size, color or texture, but were either useful or not useful to man. With time this definition may have changed, but plants are still considered to be useful or decorative. Any edible plant was known as an herb and not as a vegetable this is why we still have so many vegetables included on the herb lists.

The contemporary herb list is divided into 2 groups as well – the medicinal and culinary herbs. Many of them can be used for both categories. The word herb does not only apply to the leaves of specific plants, although they are the most frequently used, but to the flowers, berries, stems, bark and roots, which could be the actual crucial part of the plant. Herbs come from the entire plant kingdom – from the tiniest plant to massive trees.

People in different regions of the world use different types of herbs for various medicinal and culinary purposes. Many primitive tribes rely entirely on herbs for medication and it is amazing to see how broad their knowledge is of all the herbs growing wild in the hills and valleys around them.

Here are a few common flowers that have medicinal uses – never try eating flowers that you are not sure about. Many fragrant flowers are actually very poisonous and should only be used in pot-pourri.

Elderflowers are used as a flavorant for food and non-alcoholic drinks
Flowers from the Passion fruit vine are used for a non-addictive, non-depressant sedative
Calendulas are anti-fungal and heal cracked skin, sunburn and eczema
Chrysanthemum is an antibiotic flower, which can reduce blood pressure
The cactus flower, Queen of the Night is a stimulant
Tiger Flower was an ancient fertility drug

One is not quite sure how people discovered the uses for various herbs, but the knowledge of plants must have been passed on from one generation to the next. Each generation adding their own experiences with certain herbs.
