I just planted basil, sage, chives, thyme, and cilantro seeds today… how long will it be before I can use the herbs in cooking? Was it silly for me to start from seeds this late in the year? or do a lot of people wait until May to plant herb seeds?

i want to know if i can grow oregano,basil,sage,rosemary,thyme,tarragon,chives,and parsley together in one container.because i live in the mojave dessert in ca and i want to grow a culinary herb garden indoors.Also could you tell me what type of potting soil/potting mix.

I have been growing some herbs that started as seeds last February. They are all straggly. I pinched back the basil already because I found instructions here on how to do this. I also have:

Thyme (in ground)
The rest are potted.
Dill
Cilantro
Italian Parsley
Chives (not doing well, only two stalks)
Marjoram
Basil

The birds ate my Rosemary. Bad birds.

These are mostly all outside in pots. I have some in pots still inside. Of course, I’ve never done this before.

PS I’m in New York City, if that matters.
Do I need to pinch some of the others back? Which ones?
